howscalescottages

Howscales was originally built as a working farm during the middle of the 17th century. All the buildings are constructed using the local red Lazonby sandstone, both for the walls and the traditional sandstone tiled roof. The barns and byres have been painstakingly converted into self-contained cottages, each with thier own character, and retaining many of the original features like the oak beams. All are light and airy and provide guests with wonderful views.

HowscalesThere are four cosy well equipped cottages at Howscales, set around a central cobbled courtyard and surrrounded by beautiful gardens, lawns, and open countryside. All the cottages have central heating. The bedrooms are individually furnished but all have comfortable beds with duvets and white linen. All curtains have been handmade and reflect the individual style of each rrom. Even electric blankets for those chilly evenings can be provided upon request ahead of your stay.

The kitchens are equipped with an electric oven, gas hob, fridge with small freezer compartment, microwave, toaster etc. Everything you may need for that special meal. The lounge areas have pine furniture and comfortable suites, and for your entertainment, radio and tv/dvd/cd player. Free Wi-Fi is available in the cottages for those who like to keep in touch.

Shared laundry facilities are available and include automatic washing machine and tumble dryer (coin operated) with drying racks and outside clothes line.

Children are always welcome and there is a cot and high chair available. Well behaved pets are accepted (small additional charge per stay), but cannot be left unattended in the cottages. We also ask that pets are not allowed on any of the furniture.

All the cottages have their own access and ample parking, some under cover. There is a lockable storage area for cycles and golf clubs or fishing equipment.

All of our guests are welcome to use and enjoy everything that the gardens have to offer, whatever the season. BBQ facilities and garden furniture are available should you wish to enjoy cooking in the fresh open air. There are many quiet corners at Howscales, places where you can sit back and relax and take in the peace, the quietness, the wide open countryside and the breathtaking views.

Howscales provides an ideal base for walking and cycling, being only 1 mile from the C2C route, or for exploring the Eden Valley, Lake District, Penines and Hadrian's Wall.
