howscalescottages

Howscales was originally built as a working farm during the middle of the 17th century. All the buildings are constructed using the local red Lazonby sandstone, both for the walls and the traditional sandstone tiled roof. The barns and byres have been painstakingly converted into self-contained cottages, each with their own character, and retaining many of the original features like the oak beams. All are light and airy and provide guests with wonderful views.

HowscalesThere are four cosy well equipped cottages at Howscales, set around a central cobbled courtyard and surrounded by beautiful gardens, lawns, and open countryside. All the cottages have central heating. The bedrooms are individually furnished and all have comfortable beds with duvets and white linen. All curtains have been handmade and reflect the individual style of each room.

The kitchens are equipped with an electric oven, gas hob, fridge with small freezer compartment, microwave, toaster etc. Everything you may need for that special meal. The lounge areas have pine furniture and comfortable seating options, and for your entertainment, radio and tv/dvd/cd player. Free Wi-Fi is available in the cottages for those who like to keep in touch.

Shared laundry facilities are available and include automatic washing machine and tumble dryer (coin operated) with drying racks and outside clothes line.

Children are always welcome and there is a cot and high chair available.

All the cottages have their own access and ample parking, some under cover. There is a lockable storage area for cycles and golf clubs or fishing equipment.

All of our guests are welcome to use and enjoy everything that the gardens have to offer, whatever the season. BBQ facilities and garden furniture are available should you wish to enjoy cooking in the fresh open air. There are many quiet corners at Howscales, places where you can sit back and relax and take in the peace, the quietness, the open countryside and the breathtaking views.

Having dogs of our own we are very dog freindly, so you are welcome to bring your dog to stay with you at Howscales. subject to a few rules.

Howscales provides an ideal base for walking and cycling, being only 1 mile from the C2C route, or for exploring the Eden Valley, Lake District, Pennines and Hadrian's Wall.
